Tutoring Hearing Impaired Students -Reply
Tere,
Amen, sister!
Madonna University has a deaf population, and we are also fortunate to have a 4-year degree in Sign Language Studies--so the environment is a little more conducive than the average to cross-cultural communication and sharing.
If anyone would like to "bone up" on some of the issues involved with deaf students and writing, there is a very readable book by Jacqueline Anderson, titled _Deaf Student Mis-Writing, Teacher Mis-Reading_ that explains the dynamics involved with teaching deaf students and suggests some strategies for broadening our own cultural perspectives to help deaf students with the difficulties of learning written English. The book is published by Linstock Press.
Just a plug for a dear, departed friend. Thanks for indulging me.
