Re: job opening

All,
I know that noone from Iowa is going to apply for this, but someone
who is going to be in LA next year might find this interesting. We do have
excellent students and a beautiful campus. It is, thus far, a year-long
position, with about 10 students per class. It is as follows:

POSITION: ESL in English for Academic Purposes
INSTITUTION: Occidental College
LOCATION: Los Angeles

English as a Second Language: The English for Academic Purposes Program in
Occidental College's English Writing Department is looking for an EAP/ESL
specialist to teach writing in one or two courses for the academic year 1997-98.

The EAP class of approximately 12 international students focuses on the
development of writing abilities, including the associated skills needed for
non-native speakers of English to succeed in higher education. Students,
with TOEFL scores from 550 - 600, will apply techniques of close reading and
critical thinking in order to write essays in response to texts from various
disciplines. The course will emphasize extensive writing and revision.

Applicants should have an MA in TESL, and relevant experience in the
teaching of writing in a competitive college or university setting.
Instructional duties include curriculum development, and teaching hours
that may include some individualized instruction. The successful candidate
will be required to show proof of eligibility to work in the US pursuant to
immigration laws. Compensation based on qualifications and experience.

Deadline for Application: May 25

Submit a cover letter stating qualifications and teaching philosophy,
