To Everyone who responded to my request for help:

Thanks for all of your good advice on tricking Filemaker Pro into counting
non-numerical fields.

The less time one can devote to battling with software help manuals and
product self-hellp websites, the more time there is left for the other,
more important non-numerical aspects of writing center work. And you indeed
helped me save time.
