yup, i commiserate too.  I don't know, though.  I had a young woman, about
15, in my comp class back at Sul Ross State U., who was just freakin'
brilliant, no ifs ands or buts.  She was largely home-schooled by
well-educated family, but essentially an auto-didact.  the home instruction
wasn't instruction-like, just talk and reading and "hobbies" done with mom
and dad that were challenging and sophisticated, chock full of critical skills. 
  when she enrolled at SRSU, she just sort of fell in with faculty as her
buddies, because they were more fun to talk to.  Did she miss out on
something for not spending time with other students?  I don't know; i doubt
it.   but then who knows whether or to what extent she worried about her
dating life.      she had a bit of trouble with structuring her time;
couldn't quite 'get it' that some conversations had to occur at certain
times in certain rooms.  From what mickey described, though, her prodigy
sounds potentially,  uh.... well, twit-like.  So that emotional maturity
might be thin.  

 Outright moxie is even scarcer than brilliance; my student had both.

sure missed the hubbub while y'all were in phoenix;  as much as i would have
enjoyed hanging out there with you,  i still mostly delete the cccc session
messages unread.  sorry, but i'm a bit of the 4c loop.
