Hello everyone,
I am the director of the Writing Center at Coastal Carolina
University, a public institution in Conway, South Carolina, with about 4,500
undergraduates and a liberal admissions policy. I also teach one section of
English 101 and serve on the Freshman Composition Committee.
I have been asked to investigate composition programs at other schools
and find 3 programs that have adopted a "radical" approach to teaching
composition at the freshman level. I will present the major
components and philosophies/objectives of the programs at a
departmental retreat as a means of discussing
potential changes in both the way we teach and the way we think about
freshman composition. If anyone out there is involved in or knows
about a program that takes a markedly non-traditional approach to
teaching composition, please contact me off-list -- I would like to
learn about the program!
Thanks.
