Any chance you can take on (personally) the sponsorship of student
activities and/or government?  Our SG sponsor is also the Language Arts
chair (yes, in a community college) and that connection is the key for us.
He's also on the cocurricular committee that sponsors cultural outreach
programs.

Who's controlling the pursestrings of these organizations?  Faculty
sponsors?  Students?  Whoever it is should be as best a buddy of yours as
the secretaries and custodians are.
