Re: help! looking for peers

Beth, my school is about the same size, the same in having MA programs
and some PhD programs (also mostly in the sciences); we use all undergrad
tutors, 20-30 of them, and also insist on a "not just remedial"
description. Tutors come from various disciplines, are trained in a
3-credit course in the fall and a follow-up 1-credit course in the
spring. We emphasize working with first-year students, but that's not
all we do (we work with some first-year seminars, by no means all of
them). The director (me) is fulltime, teaches the training courses and
sometimes another course as well (this is negotiated with the director of
our umbrella organization, The Learning Cooperative), is non-tenure
track. If you can think of anything else, let me know. Good luck in
your meeting. Jean Kiedaisch
