Re: Letters of Reccomendation -Reply

The gist of the story was: a vice-principal (I think) and his former
employers were sued for sexual harrassment. The former employers
were held responsible for his current actions. The state Supreme
court, lawyers, etc. have essentially said, "for your own good, don't
send out letters of rec." This is in complete opposition to the
sentiment of a few years ago, where a company could be sued for
giving an employee a bad rec (restraint of trade or something like
that). So there's no winning ... thus, the rules of the game will be
changed. Our placement office here is taking this tack, telling us,
in a memo, that we send out letters at our own risk. Just three
years ago I had committee members write "to whom it may concern
letters..." I wonder if that's feasable any more.
