Certainly it is distressing to hear such stories.  And yes, it is hard to
find hope.  I offer this much:  if we can find a way to develop writing
center accreditation, designed and conducted by writing center
professionals, then we have at least some protection against such
events--tinkering with an accredited program is not so tempting.
