Kate,
I am a student at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, and I took
a tutor training course last semester in order to tutor in our _new_
Writing Center. I strongly suggest "The Practical Tutor" by Meyer et al as
did Sir James. I also used "The St. Martin's Sourcebook fo Writing Tutors"
by Murphy et al and found it very helpful. Those were the only two books
that I used in the 3-credit English483 course (yes, upper-level credit,
James), but I have also heard rave reviews about "The Bedford Guide...."
There are a number of online resources that are available in the tutoring
field, but I can't think of them right now. I will post if I find them.
Good luck to you, and I hope the course is a great success! As a result of
the course that I was in, many of my fellow classmates are coming back to
the Writing Center to tutor for this semester.
For the advancement of writing
