Re: other tutoring
I, too, am in a similar position. By default I periodically have to
line up tutors for statistics, linguisitics, computer programming,
etc. It is difficult for me to find appropriate tutors. Also, since
many of our students have such hectic schedules, it is impossible for
me to find a convenient time for everyone to meet. Typically, I try
to find a tutor who will be willing to be on call. I then let that
tutor contact the student and arrange a mutually agreeable time to
meet. However, this system doesn't always work. The other
difficulty I have is that students come to be begging me to hire a
tutor for a course, I do, and then only 1 or 2 students ever show up
for tutoring. I am concerned, therefore, about cost effectiveness.
I would also appreciate any advice or suggestions anyone has to
offer. I also want to focus on our writing lab, but if there is
truly a need for tutoring in other areas, I want to help.
