On our slips that we send to teachers who want to know if their students have
been here, we have a line to fill in about what what was discussed during the
conference.  Every once in a while, if a writer really doesn't want to do
antyhing, we will just fill in the slip after 5 or 10 minutes.  I've had a
disgruntled tutor or two comment on the slip that the writer didn't want to be
there.  A better idea, probably, is to ask the writer what should go onto that
line--that question will probably start the conversation going again about
writing.
