	I've not had the opportunity to work with people in Applied 
Linguistics, but I want to agree with Mieke here about the reading and 
research part of it.  Most of the theory underlying my practice is theory 
based on language-acquisition models.  I've especially found Stephen 
Krashen's work with second languages to be helpful.
