Re: interdisc. outreach workshops for biz

Hi James! I've done similar workshops to the ones you describe. What
they really seemed to like was Lanham's paramedic method (which
they quickly learned didn't have to be used step-by-step), and the
punctuation method based on John Dawkin's(?) recent article in CCCC (I
believe spring 96; definitely within the past academic year, anyway).
You might also substitute Williams' tactic in _Style: 10 Lessons in
Clarity & Grace_ for the paramedic method--just have them look for the
action in a sentence, then make sure the action is put in the verb.

I should note: many of the business-types I've worked with seem to
want the "Five Absolute Rules for Everything." So I usually spend
some time explaining the rhetorical situation, so that they understand
why no rule can always be right.

No buzzword for you, unfortunately. I believe I called mine:
"Managers' Writing Workshops." Yawn.

Hope this helps--
Beth
