While I don't know of anything that specifically considers Freire's work in
relation to MIT, I do know of an excellent article by Linda Shaw Finlay and
Valerie Fairth entitled "Illiteracy and Alienation in American Colleges:  Is
Paulo Friere's Pedagogy Relevant?" that you might find interesting.  I'm using
a lot of the ideas in my first-year comp course this semester.  The article is
published in Shor's _Freire for the Classroom_, Boynton/Cook, 1987.
