Re: TQM-like stuff for WC

Dave,

I think in referring to yourself as a "cynic," you are being too hard on
yourself. Nevertheless, the power of your Monday morning ethos has
shaken me out of my perpetual state of suspended lurkermation. I couldn't
agree with you more about TQM. The corporate-manager ethos, sometimes
the corporate-manager him/herself, is having an unfortunate influence on
public education at all levels. From college presidents to high school
principals, managers often now come from the world of business, not the
world of academe. I would hope that dedicated teachers everywhere would resist
TQM, with its push toward commodification, productivity, down-sizing, asnd the
bottom line. I would especially hope this for Writing Center people.
