Re: Power Macintoshes with Dos/Windows Compatibility
For the past five months, I've been using a PowerMac 7200 with a lot of
memory (40 megs) running SoftWindows to get Windows compatibility. I am a
Mac user who needs to run a Microsoft Access database, and Access isn't
available for the Mac. I chose Softwindows over a dual platform machine
because I'd heard only complaints about those machines' abilities.
SoftWindows been working extremely well. No glitches at all, though I
haven't tried to access the network through the Windows side.
That said, I have to admit that I decided not to put dual platform machines
in our writing center, largely because this machine--equipped as it is--is
a very expensive way to run Windows programs. It's probably more cost
effective to keep two kinds of computers in your lab--or to help people
access access their Windows files through Macs. But if you do decide on a
dual platform approach, I recommend that you look at SoftWindows. It works
well.
