Re: Public Journal ideas
We keep our tutor's journal at the front desk so it's readily available. We've
used two different forms over the years -- a spiral notebook and more recently
a three-ring notebook. A few tutors who work on the computer asked for the
three-ring so that they could word process entries and just stick them in the
binder. It's been working pretty well.
Tutors write in the journal whenever they feel like it. There may be 7 or 8
entries in the journal one day and none the next. People write all sorts of
stuff in the journal including very tutor-based sorts of things like FYIs -- "I
just found out that Dr. Anderson is asking all her students to come in to find
out strategies they can use for their presentations on a grammar rule" or Dr.
Middle has said his students could come in with groups of four" -- or questions
"does anyone know how to explain x concept well?" or requests for response to
specific tutoring situations or students student. Tutors also share jokes,
perspectives on current issues, stuff they've read. And they share their
successes with students and classes and disappointments too.
I guess what I'm saying is that tutors really need to control when and what
they write for journals to be successful.
