The problem is that most people who believe in what they do (like wc folk)
assume that good will exists on the part of others; it's often difficult to
get them to see you as anything but a workhorse. One thing I did was ask for
a leave for a quarter, and another time for summer leave-- with pay (I work
year round). I had a clear chart of what would accomplish with the time off
(all of it benefitting the programs), and --most important to my
admin.--anoother chart showing how I had arranged to have things work
smoothly while I was away.
Unfortunately, *I* found myself so conditioned that I didn't take all the
time away from campus that I should have...nonetheless, it set a precedent
that I intend to follow again .(I've also promised myself I'll be better at
staying away.)
