Re: compensation
Jane,
You asked for specifics, so, having stated my views, I will give you
specifics.

These titles belong to two persons on campus at EIU. The WC Director
receives 1/3 reassigned time during the academic year plus a tenth month's
pay for summer. There is also an assisant director with 1/4 reassigned time
for the academic year. The Director of the Writing Program receives 1/4
reassigned time. The WC director is also WAC Coordinator, but the
training and workshops for faculty are conducted with the assistance of
the director of the writing program. Thus for these 3 titles, .66FTE
However, some of the activities listed below are assigned elsewhere.

Our WC director trains and supervises, does not hire--that is done by the
Grad Director (1/4 reassigned time for that title; has other duties, but
the hiring of grad assistants is a significant element--maybe .2 FTE)
There is no requirement to do a newsletter.

This effort is conducted institution-wide here and is coordinated by a
dean (position is presently vacant; the coordination is being conducted by
the other asst. VPAA). Also involved is the director of testing services.
And an advisory council. Probably another .2 or .3 FTE

Assigned to WC director here
; plan and coordinate college-wide assessment of writing

Dean/asst. VPAA
oversee departmental requirements in writing;
Assigned to director of composition here
review writing samples

Assessed by the college of education here; another .2 FTE

Assigned to director of undergraduate studies and departmental advisors here.
Director of undergrad studies receives 1/4 reassigned time for the
curricular work. Two departmental advisors receive 1/2 reassigned time for
student advising. That adds up to 1.25 FTE

Usual WAC assignment here.
Ok, I add up the total reassigned time for these activities and get a
minimum of 2.51 FTE. That means two and a half full-time position
equivalents. And these are based on real numbers, not funny numbers.
Even if I take out the .2 estimates, the total is above 2 FTE.
No joke.
