			CALL FOR PAPER PROPOSALS

PACIFIC COAST WRITING CENTER ASSOCIATION ANNUAL CONFERENCE

"WRITING ACROSS THE CENTER: NEGOTIATING AND RESITUATING
				ROLES AND EXPECTATIONS"

				NOVEMBER 2, 1996
			UNIVERSITY OF PORTLAND (OR)

Writing centers in colleges and universities face the challenge of helping
students with writing assignments across the disciplines. Administrators,
faculty, center staff, and clients negotiate their diverse views and
needs in our writing centers.

How are roles and expectations resituated in a center staffed by peer tutors
from across the disciplines? How can we best"translate" disciplinary
thinking and writing expectations when we are not from that field? Is the
center perceived differently when the peer tutors are not from the
disciplines?

Writing Across the Center is the theme of this year's conference. Through our
conversations, we hope to gain insights into the impact writing across the
disciplines and writing centers have on each other.

This conference seeks especially those proposals addressing such writing
across the center issues, but welcomes all others relevant to the writing
center.
