Re: Thanks

I'd just like to thank those of you on this list who replied to a posting
of mine last spring asking for advice about organizing departmental
retreats. We in the Division of Rhetoric and Composition are just back
from the retreat I was planning last spring, and it went very well. We
said some things that needed to be said, made some plans that needed to
be made, and took the time to enjoy each other's company, something that
we as very busy people needed to do. As I'm analyzing why things went so
well, I can see that it's in part because I followed your advice: we got
far enough away so that people weren't distracted by regular work, we
went someplace pleasant, we took a day and a half, and the schedule was
organized but it left time for us to talk with each other informally.

Of course I can now claim the distinction of lugging a bunch of
workaholics into the country to discuss workload issuses, inter alia, and
finding that we propose to address the situation by forming six committees
;-)
