Jon-Well, I need to do some thinking/flying about the hallucinogenic 
part, but, yes, I do think that online conf and listserv texts are very 
different.  The audience for listserv is wide open, some known, most not, 
some responding, most not.  The conf texts are most often between two 
writers, even though their faces may be unknown.  Also, they are much 
more targeted to specific texts with particular and more short-range 
goals in mind.  I'm glad that you noted the problem with conflating 
them.  Carol
