Re: Request for feedback
Judy,
Kevin's advice was much more reasonable than mine, but I'll throw mine in
anyway because I'm feeling grumpy today and I just want to say it: Why does
this tutoring have to take place in the dorms? I know it's a Residential Life
program, but does that necessarily mean that everything has to take place in
residence? What about just allowing them to do some coordination through res.
life, but having the actual tutoring be business as usual in the center?
Sounds complicated, and maybe it is.
I've done something similar with our new football team on campus. They have
study hours at specific times and wanted to station tutors in the res hall for
that. Instead, I suggested that the football players go through the same
process as everyone else--making an appointment, gathering materials, showing
up for that appt--and the report form for the session can be sent to the
program coordinator rather than to the student's professor (or to both, if the
student wishes). That way, the football players get to visit the writing
center during study hall, as well they should, and we have, as far as I can
tell, no disruptions.
I know this may not be exactly possible in your situation, but if this really
seems to be not do-able for you, or that the cost in terms of your service
would be too high (not only financially), then I think you have the right to
say that and to have that respected.
Good luck,
