On out (Salt Lake Community College Writing Center's) pages we make it
very clear that in-person student writers have priority over on-line or
e-mail students (http://www.slcc.edu/wc (see Writing tutoring link).
I'm not certain, however, how long this policy will last...if the number
of on-line clients picks up it may be fruitless. We've never had to
delay anyone who is reaching us via technological means for more than 1
day.
Here's the tough nut that I think that these messages are attempting to
crack:
What if the number of "community" patrons (a term used early on in this
thread) overwhelms the number of campus patrons? While I do not see
this happening for SLCC Writing Center, I think it may happen for some
other places....how do we justify using campus funds for a service that
is used by an "unpaying" community?
I have some ideas on this...but will defer to the list.
