For those concerned about plagiarism -- there is a computer program called
the Glatt Plagiarism Program that uses statistical methods to "prove" a case
of plagiarism. My college owns it, but, as far as I know, it has never
actually been put to use. It was created by Sheri(?) Glatt who lives, I
believe, in San Diego -- or thereabouts. The program takes a copy of the
suspect text file and inserts a blank for every sixth word. The real author
should be able to replace most of those words. A plagiarist is not able to
do so at the same level. The level of replacement is the basis for the
statistical judgement of guilt or innocence.
