Linda, 

Like you, I kind of like not being like a doctor's office, not asking for ss#s
when we have no administrative or other need to do so (perhaps other
centers need to have these for required bookkeeping).  Near our door
we have a sign up list with blanks for writing name, course, teacher's
name, type of paper, and time of arrival.  I would like to add a "If this is
your first visit, how did you hear of us" question and also have a
checkoff for academic status.  But I'm glad we can get things started by
saying "please sign in" rather than "please fill out this/these form(s)."
