Re: reading backwards

I use reading backwards as one proofreading technique; it's
important I think to use several proofreading techniques tog et at different
kinds of mistakes or omissions. The backwards reading I learned is
actually reading from the bottom of the page up; you cover what's
on top and read from left to right as you would normally in English,
but you are reading an isolated line out of context, so you look at
words individiually instead of sliding along the sense of the sentence,
which as the writer of it, you know all too well. Does this make
sense? It's an effective technique, particularly for spelling
and repeated or missing word errors, but it must be carried out in
conjunction with other methods, and it is most valuable when you are
proofreading your own work,

The best way to proofread your own work, of course, is to get someone
else to do it.
