Re: articles
Deany,
While tutoring, I have offered the same advice to my ESL clients: If
you read
more English, it will help you with the articles. However, I have noticed
an interesting phenomenon this semester. I am teaching an ESL reading
class at Houston Community College ( my first time) and last night my
students were reading aloud from the text. Almost all of them glossed
over the articles while reading aloud. Since I am not a reading
specialist, I do not know the reason for this, but this situation has
got me re-thinking my previous
prescriptions. If ESL students are not even "reading" the articles that
are printed, will reading more English help?

P.S. This is happening in a level 2 and a level 4 ( the highest level)
class.
