Give the articles, by all means.  Don't withhold the information.  It's easy to
do; it makes everyone happy; who can it possibly hurt?  I don't even spend much
time trying to explain why an article is going in, although I will frequently
point out a set of examples that are all the same (always in the context of a
writer's work, of course).  I'm happy to offer this proofreading/editing
service to ESL writers, although I won't do it silently.  I have this belief,
probably misguided, that if either the writer or I read it out loud, maybe the
sound of the article going in or being left out will help.  

This is the kind of thing I was talking about earlier (this semester?) when you
and I and others engaged in a discussion about moving fingers.
