Re: RE: tutor skits -Reply

I gave Leigh Ryan's book to our tutors last fall, too. It does indeed
help them get down to business, and it has been inspiring in both expected
and unexpected ways. The first time we discussed the book, one of the
tutors doubted the veracity of the entire text until I convinced him that,
like the vignette described in the book, there ARE writing centers which
are comfortable, inviting, and, most importantly, which have
coffee-makers. I felt like a traveler bringing back tales of wonder. The
coffee-maker has entered our "family" mythology, so that when I ask them
about events in the writing center, they report first on our non-existent
coffee machine.

It's not quite the same as a skit for demonstration, but it has become a
fantasy that affirms our community.
