writing programs for computer

Our center is compiling for the community  a list of writing resources, 
books, classes, readings and the like, and it occurred to me that we 
should include a couple of writing programs.  I know some have been 
mentioned; I just skimmed right over them since I didn't need them at the 
time.  Would some of you be kind enough to post me the names of some 
programs you think might be especially good for community folks?
