Re: GOOD NEWS!
Of course, Katie dear, you certainly have first "dibs" on the, uh, pink
and orange writing lab apron. (Did I see that on my visit to Clarke?
Surely I wouldn't have forgotten it.)
And thank you, my writing-centered friends, for the congratulations! When
I signed on to email I didn't anticipate Steve's message or your
overwhelming response. I'm blushing. And grinning.
I'm very much looking forward to joining the faculty at Clarke, and not
just because I'll get to work with Katie--although, heaven knows, that
would be reward enough--right, Katie? Katie and Olivia Archibald have
already established a rich, strong writing center program at Clarke. It
is the kind of program that suits the school itself. (And I'm not just
trying to make brownie points here, although I don't suppose it would
hurt. Are you taking note, Katie?) Clarke seems to be impressively
student-centered and to value good teaching highly. I'm also excited by
the writing center outreach programs and the school's aggressive
grant-seeking for integrating technology and pedagogy. Considering my
tendency to lapse into passionate educational idealism, this may be a good
place for me.
But what's this about a "killer clown"? Or would that account for the
little tableau I saw on a table in Clarke's writing center: a large,
heavily bandaged Raggedy Ann doll receiving a transfusion from a root beer
bottle. Hmmmmm. What have I gotten into?
