Actually, the "Good Times" virus is a hoax. The real trickster is the
person who put together that message, which I for one have now
received three times in about a year. (Don#t feel embarrassed; the
second mailing was from our Computer Services director.)
There is a lot of technical lingo in the message, but the technique
described is actually not realistically feasible for delivering a
computer virus. The trickster is playing off the inflated fear of
viruses and perhaps was indulging a personal dislike for America
Online users who tend to be Internet novices. It's been an amazingly
durable hoax.
