We try to remind ourselves to never say no. Many writers use the word "proofread" to mean all kinds of good stuff. We invite the writer to sit down, get out the piece of writing, get out the assignment, read out loud, etc. etc. The only time we say no is if someone asks if he or she can drop the paper off and pick it up later.
