My tutors and I got into a discussion yesterday about howto respond to the 
ubiquitous "I need to have this paper proofread."

I suggested we make a positive, "I can" response, stating what we will do 
and not what we won't. Some of the tutors felt it is important to set the 
record straight right off the bat with a "No, but" response.  I'd be 
interested in knowing how others do this.
