Probably more unready to immerse themselves in learning, Jim, rather than 
unteachable.  I think you take too much burden on yourself.  A caveat I 
always put on my syllabuses (syllabi?) is, in part,"while I will inform 
and guide you, you are responsible for your own learning."  Learning 
sometimes is like the great chain of being; it takes more than the one 
class experience to teach us.  Just a thought.
