Paula...I used to think about that alot when I directed the UTA Writing
Center. My theory is that the beginning of a new calendar year means
it's not urgent to get things accomplished...there's still a whole year
in front of us. Not to mention some 330 shopping days left until
Christmas :) So, things slow down. Plenty of time to procrastinate.
The Fall is intense, seems shorter (to me, at least). I think Spring
cleaning must have something to do with it too :) So, the upshot of all
this, in my theory, as it relates to academia is that enrollment drops in
the spring since people feel they still have summer and fall to make up
for lost time. They're tired from the holidays. And I'm factoring
faculty and students into this theory. Heck! There's an inch or so of
snow on my yard today, ice on the streets, and I'm playing with
webweavers when I should be working on the draft of an article due Monday.
So, for those you thinking o O (why doesn't she get to it, then!!) O o...
OK OK!
