Re: fun and effective

hi folks,

i've noticed likewise that as i get more at ease with talking with
student groups/classes, i get excited and sometimes a bit goofy. It is a
rush to be in front of a crowd. probably something neurochemical, like a
public-speaking-goofiness-endorphin rush. i tend sometimes to stick my
foot in mouth, though, carried away by the enthusiasm of the moment. i
gesture wildly, make noises. Wierd, isn't it, how a literacy educator
falls back on the paralinguistic to make a point. Maybe i know that
language is just so limited that I _have_ to make raspberry noises and
funny faces.

which French symbolist poet said, "Je prend l'eloquence et tord lui son
cou/ I take elequence and wring its neck"? Verlaine, I think.

on the other hand, I'll pay attention to email ASAP, but I've never
learned to use our campus' voice mail system. i hate voice mail. i need
something visual.

who knows....

by the way: The Exon Communications Bill looks to be on its way to
passage into law, including the bit that says it should be illegal to
use the internet to pass along information about abortion. So here: "To whom it
may concern, If you're pregnant but don't want to become a
parent, you might consider seeking medical assistance in stopping
those physical processes, and thereby becoming unpregnant." there. i
feel like putting it into my signature file. And now that I've sent
this to all of you, I'm doing my civil disobediance thing against a stupid,
stupid bill. Information WANTS TO BE FREE and will find a way to be
disseminated regardless of the twits in congress.
