Writing Center Position Opening
Dear WCENTER Folks,
My husband and I are taking off for Papua New Guinea in April;
we'll be teaching English and science as Peace Corps volunteers.
As a result, my wonderful writing center job will be available
in a few months. Here are the details:
My writing center is located at the Loudoun campus of Northern
Virginia Community College. The campus is in Sterling, Virginia,
in the far western suburbs of Washington D.C.
The writing center coordinator works with students and supervises
a staff of approximately 10 peer consultants. The job is full
time with benefits. The pay is low (starting at about $21,000).
The job requires a bachelor's degree only, and we'll be looking
for someone with experience in the writing classroom or, preferably,
the writing center. When I started here, I had just earned my B.A.
I had worked for two years as a peer consultant in my college's
writing center. (While I was working here, I earned my M.A.
at night. I was given a bit of tuition assistance--$600 per
year--and a great deal of moral support. As soon as I had
earned 18 hours toward my M.A., I was allowed to teach a section
of freshman composition.)
Anyway, this campus is a wonderful place to work, and I consider
myself very lucky to have gotten my start here. Anyone who is
interested in knowing more about the job should contact me:

Oh and anyone who knows anything about Papua New Guinea should
contact me too. Any former Peace Corps volunteers out there?
Take care,
Mary
