This thread is a useful historical knot as the coffee or other inspired
responses show a more confident WC group, having moved at least some
distance from the "we'll do anything if you'll just let us exist" mode.  We
demonstrate that confidence and maturity when we recognize that, of course,
we teach--perhaps are differently-situated as teachers--but certainly teach
both students and faculty members about writing--with what we do say and do
and what we do not say and do.  

Now, the critical next move is not to become the oppressors now that we have
a modicum of confidence and clout--not to quickly become absolutely
corrupted by our coffee or other heady experiences with recognition that
we're not the lowest form of university life.  It's what we do with power
after you have it that reveals us most clearly.
