Re: Short conferences (fwd) -Reply

We do both kinds of conferences here at SUNY Plattsburgh. Students can
sign up for one-hour appointments with writing tutors or they can come in
to Writing Walk-in without an appointment for shorter confence--sometimes
only a few minutes. If others are waiting to talk to a tutor, Walk-in
sessions go no longer than half an hour. If no one's waiting, conferences
might be longer.

The variety seems to work for us. It takes flexibility on the part of the
tutors to be able to handle both types of sessions, and we talk about this
a lot in staff meetings.

An article that grew in part from these discussions is in the latest issue
of WLN. It's by Jeannine Broadwell, a former peer tutor here.
