Becky Boland wonders how an asynchronous online conference differs from a paper 
being physically dropped off and picked up from the writing center after having 
been "gone over" by a tutor.

Asynchronous online conferences don't preclude questions.  Online clients may 
require a little prompting to send their stuff earlier than they might bring it 
in f2f, but given a few days a writer and reader can experience some kind of 
dialogue even if they don't have access to synchronous interaction.
