if i remember to go buy it, we always have candy in a bowl i bought at a
garage sale on a table just inside the door of our writing lab.  we usually
have chocolate of some kind -- hershey's kisses are very popular.  the bowl
used to be on the receptionist's desk but she went on a diet and moved the
temptation out of the way.  the young people who are in charge of recycling
paper on our campus come to pick up our paper every week -- even though we
don't really have that much -- so they can have candy.  students and tutors
eat it up.  and we also have toys on our front desk -- a slinky, a funny
ball, wind up teeth, and a game where they have to try to catch the ring on
a stick.  all in an effort to create a friendly atmosphere.  we're swamped
most of the time so it may be working.
