Re: Revision: Who Else Hates It?

For me, revision is that mysterious, internal process which clarifies my
initial thoughts, extends my thinking. It's difficult to separate
revision from creation because they so often seem to be the same deal--
discovery. However, during revision, unlike during intial creation, I
have a "jumping off point" from which I can futher my thoughts in a more
focused direction. Revision's hard work, but it's filled with small bursts
of unexpected enjoyment.

Something completely different:

Mention "writing" to me and fiction comes to mind. When I think in terms
of writing, revising, etc., I initially think of fiction because it is
my first love and what I most often write. When students come in for help,
I have to adapt my thinking to other types of writing--essays, research
papers, etc.

What about you? What do you think of when you think of "writing"?
