Re: Writing in the Social Sciences
Hi, Karen. I'm afraid I don't have a source for you but instead an
idealistic suggestion. Would it work to have it be the project for your
students to investigate the conventions of writing in the social
sciences and the sources for those conventions? They could read and
critique social science writing (which covers lots of territory without
monolithic conventions!), talk to social scientists about why they make
the writing decisions they do, write some preliminary social science-type
pieces. This is where I'm trying to move to in the various classes I
teach, so I'm afraid I'm not speaking from experience here but instead
from an ideal.
