Jeanne:
Schooling remains a mixed bag, like life in general.
I have always valued education. As far back as I can remember, I
never was very materialistic in my interests or goals.
There have been both shorter and longer term benefits from the
schooling I experienced. Basic skills and understandings can be
useful in almost any walk of life. They can be useful in many
personal ways too.
College education is likely to remain a mix of elements. The
"either or" approach is unlikely to work.
Humans need food, clothing, and shelter. They also have
psychological needs which a job alone does not necessarily meet.
Thus "relevance" should not be viewed myopically. That attribute
unfortunately was used as a buzzword by many hippies or flower
children in various classes. I was unimpressed by their nonsensical
use of the word however.
