LD and Basic Writers

I am a graduate assistant at DePaul University and will be writing a
research article on how writing center consultants can effectively work
with LD college writers. There hasn't been much research done at all
within the field of Composition/Rheotric (or at least it hasn't yet been
published in our journals--with the exception of _The Writing Lab Newsletter_
which had soem stories on this in their Nov 94 issue) SO I was curious
how many writing centers and writing center staff have worked with or do
work with students who are LD. DePaul has a very good program for LD
students called PLuS, but they have their own tutors, so our writing
center has not had much experience with LD writers at all.

I would greatly appreciate any experiences or comments anyone out there
wishes to share. You may respond to the list or to me personally at
ENGGDETB@orion.depaul.edu

The questions I am particularly interested in are:
1. In your experience, how are LD writers different from "Basic" writers
(or are they?)?

2. Do these students identify themselves as LD and describe their
strentghts and weaknesses (or does the tutor determine thenm?)

3. Are tutors at your writing center specially trained to work with
LD students? (do all receive training or are there certain tutors
who receive training and then work with all LD students?)

4. Are there specific methods or approaches that have been especially
helpful or successful for those tutors who work with LD students?

I will also be more than happy to share my results with anyone else who
is interested. :) THANKS!
