Re: OWLs
Thanks to everyone who responded to me personally about OWL basic
information. I have learned a lot already. Today I found the Purdue OWL
and received information and the index of handouts. I also requested and
received a couple handouts to see how that worked--and how well it does
work! Before I could lean back in the chair, the request had been
filled. The handouts, by the way, are concise, precise, and very
friendly in tone. I look forward to showing our students this service in
January.
You are right. Jumping in and trying this out was very helpful. Of
course, listening to the discussion on this line, asking questions,
taking suggestions (for books, articles to read and ways to practice) is
a terrific learning experience. I think that is what may appeal to our
students too.
Advertising--Have you added a line to the computer screens in the campus
labs? Sometimes our students will pick up a subliminal Writing Center
suggestion there as they are writing.... Just a little suggestion. We,
too, find that advertising is one of our hardest jobs. It is constant,
and we have to keep varying our style. People get numbed to signs,
letters, announcements. Skywriting?
Happy Holidays!
