Re: Ed's Question
stephen--
Thanks for the suggestion about Pine. I'll ask our sys-op about
acquiring it. We're having campus-wide email problems, so he may
not get to it for awhile. In fact, recently he has shown all the
charm and receptivity of a treed opossum--all red eyes and pointy
teeth. I'm beginning to suspect that finding and purchasing
APPROPRIATE software and computer equipment is something which
cannot be handled in the typical ways of campus business offices:
that is, for public universities, taking the lowest bidder, and,
for private universities, buying from an alum because he might
donate some day.
Actually, the more I see of business practices and business ethics,
the more concerned I am about the growing popular sentiment that U.S.
government should be run like a business. From all that I can tell
(for example, what's the ethical difference between pork-barrelling
and profit-groudging?), it already is. But I digress.
